ANOTHER NEW GEOTECHNICAL DRILL RIG FOR ASIAN GEOS [13-01-2010]

AG intends to re-locate its deepwater geotechnical drilling rig the AG-100 to outside South East Asia within the next few months. This is in line with its planned geographical expansion. The AG-100 drilling derrick will soon be removed from the MV Orogenic Geos to enable it to be shipped out and installed on a DP vessel.

To replace the AG-100, AG is currently building another rig called the AG-50. The construction of the new rig will complete by end of January 2010 before the MV Orogenic Geos commence with its upcoming work in offshore East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The AG-50 will employ the Dando-1000 power swivel enabling the rig to be used to handle some 700m of API drillstrings.

AG operates 2 dedicated soil boring vessels, it owns and operates four (4) motion-compensated Marine Drilling Rigs, four (4) units of downhole CPT systems and employs more than 100 marine, drilling and engineering personnel at its offices in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Jakarta.

Helmi Zulkawi, Asian Geos Managing Director comments:
"To place the deepwater-capable AG-100 on a DP vessel  will make more sense as we have decided not to install a DP system onboard the MV Orogenic Geos, at least for now. Our drillers will continue to operate the AG-100 marine drill rig once the rig is installed onto the DP vessel. This will provide an opportunity for AG to be involved in the deepwater geotechnical survey making use of the deepwater equipment we already own.”
